How long is Korean military service in 2026?
Army and Marines 18 months, Navy 20, Air Force 21, social service agents 21 (Military Manpower Administration). The Military Service Act sets longer base terms (Art. 18) that are shortened under Art. 19.
How is the discharge date calculated?
Service counts from the enlistment day, so it ends the day before the same date N months later. The Ministry of National Defense's own example: Army enlistment on 2 Jun 2020 → discharge 1 Dec 2021.
What if I enlisted on the 31st?
If the final month has no such date, service ends on that month's last day (Civil Act Art. 160(3)).
Can the real date differ?
Yes — time in detention or AWOL isn't counted, and discharge can be deferred for hospital stays or operations. Confirm with your unit or the MMA.
